JL Audio

JL Audio remains a top player in car audio and electronics. Their subwoofers are mainly associated with sound-quality setups. They have been in business since 1975 and became prominent in the scene in the 1990s, primarily for winning awards and car audio competitions. Their subwoofers still use the "W" connotation, and their W7 is among the top choices in competitions. JL Audio also has a complete line of subwoofer amplifiers.

JBL

JBL is a world famous brand. They have over 50 years of experience is known not only in audio in general, but in all kinds of electronics as well. Their car audio line has been pretty successful over the last decade and they continue to take the market seriously. Their subwoofers are versatile enough to be used in SQ (sound quality) installs as well as SPL (sound pressure levels) applications.

Kicker

Kicker used to be synonymous with booming bass. Personally, I think Kicker has lost some of its touch by prioritizing flair over performance. However, being such a stalwart in the car audio world, their brand deserves a mention in whatever best-of car audio products list there is.

Digital Designs (DD)

In the world of SPL, street bass, dB drag, and just pure unadulterated bass, DD is king. Look up SPL world records and you will surely encounter the brand Digital Designs. They may lack flair and marketing, but pure performance sells itself. If you are into bass installs, you might want to take a look at the DD brand.

Image Dynamics

I remember reading competition-install features in car audio magazines and coming across the brand multiple times. Image Dynamics has had a good reputation when it comes to good-sounding car subwoofers. They still are well-respected to this day.

Velodyne

Velodyne might just well be the holy grail of sound quality subwoofers. Their brand is also respected in the audiophile (home audio) world, which easily doubles up their points the bass world. Their subwoofers, however, do not come cheap. But if money is no object, make sure to take a look at this brand.
